I had written this out yesterday and yet it seems I have to add some unfortunate news along with the good news.
So "Would you like the bad news or the good news?"
We'll start with the bad news first.
Yesterday, BC health officials announced that we will be going back to online worship services. This was a huge blow for us as we were going to start Sunday School this week and were just gaining the momentum we lost the last time churches were closed.
These restrictions are placed in Northern BC because of the rampant Covid cases in our area. And honestly, after being in the hospital and having chatted with people who have their medical needs put on hold, Covid is really bad up here.
Would you pray for us, our church and the people up North?
There is no doubt that there is a huge struggle in so many different areas from physical to spiritual, emotional and mental health.
Now onto the good news.
Despite our dog's disdain for cameras, we are all pretty excited today. Today we get to share great news for our ministries.
Around this time last year, Brad was working at a landscaping job and working in the evenings to preach a sermon at different churches. One of those churches was Lakes Community Church who invited us and voted Brad in to become an Interim Pastor for a year.
On Wednesday night, they had another meeting to determine if Brad would stay on as Pastor. We went into the meeting with a lot of peace and left with joy in our hearts.
Brad was voting in officially as Pastor!
This means we will be staying at Lakes for as long as the Lord will have us there.
Our second big announcement involves InterVarsity. Over this last fall and this year, Cristyn had felt a calling to the ministry of InterVarsity. While Covid and zoom ministry was tough, Cristyn still was drawn to the ministry of InterVarsity to the campus in Prince George.
Over the summertime, Cristyn went through the process of being hired on with InterVarsity as a staff member.
We are excited to announce Cristyn has been hired on as the Campus Minister at the University of British Columbia!
A Campus Minister’s role is to disciple and give pastoral care to undergraduate students. This is done through mentoring a group of students on campus who are passionate about sharing the gospel and encouraging others in their faith. A Campus Minister works to be an evangelistic witness to students on campus during a pivotal point in their lives.
UNBC is built on a hill that overlooks Prince George. It is a hill I (Cristyn) believe while can be a place that is discouraging to a young person's faith, has the potential (and in some ways is) to be a place where the Spirit of the Lord flourishes amidst a vibrant community and speak hope to those who are struggling deeply with loneliness.
While this had been official near the end of August, due to getting Covid it was difficult to start fundraising in September.
Due to this being a missionary position in Prince George. I will not be able to step on campus until I have reached 80% of my fundraising goal.
My current fundraising goal is $3,540 a month.
As a result, for the majority of the fall semester, I will be contacting friends and family to come onto my support team!
My hope is to do this face to face, over zoom or over the phone. I will be travelling at the start of November up North to the Bulkley Valley area and sometime in November, Brad and I will be taking a trip to the Grande Prairie area.
Before then, if you are reading this would you prayerfully consider being a ministry partner?
If you feel lead today to support me and help me get on campus you can click the button down below to set up monthly support.
For a limited time, IVCF will be matching each donation that comes in $1 for $1 until November 31st so Cristyn can start her ministry sooner!
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden Neither do
people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it
gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matt 5:14-16
And news for Olive? Well, she recently got a 50-foot leash. As a pup born and bred in the cold motherland of Russia, she has been in her element. It recently snowed in PG and being so far out of town, the snow has stayed for us. As a result, Olive has been in the zone, hopping and running around like a sly lynx.
To this date, she has caught one mouse and a grouse.
Until next month, God be with you
Love Brad, Cristyn and Olive
